simple podcast guide for newbies

Podcasts are more popular year on year so it’s never too late to start your own.  As of September 2023 there are over 3 million podcasts!  If you want to start a podcast, there’s loads of great advice out there but I’d recommend listening to some of the most popular podcasts on Spotify to see what makes a successful podcast.  I started my own a while back and will be recording a new season soon:  Voiceover Podcast

Tip 1. Pick a topic that you’re passionate and knowledgeable about

It’s important to choose a subject or niche that genuinely excites you and that you have expertise in. Your real enthusiasm for the topic will keep your energy up and make your passion contagious with an audience. By leveraging your knowledge, you can provide insights and different perspectives establishing yourself as an expert in your field.

Tip 2: Plan ahead. Create an episode schedule.

Before diving into podcasting it’s helpful to plan out your episodes in advance and establish a release schedule. Having a schedule also helps you stay on track and keeps your audience engaged by delivering episodes when they anticipate them.  They’ll be hoping for and expecting new podcast episodes!

Tip 3: Invest in high-quality equipment for Podcast Recording

Investing in a good-quality microphone and headphones is essential for ensuring that your podcast’s audio is clear, crisp, and pleasant to listen to. The audio quality of a podcast is of utmost importance, and high-quality equipment can help you achieve the best possible sound.  Book an audio coaching session with me to improve your audio quality.

Tip 4: Stay focused and concise in each episode

To keep your audience engaged in your podcast, stay on-topic and avoid going off on too many tangents. Structure each episode with clear and concise language, defining key points and organising them logically. This will help you capture and maintain listener attention without losing them to irrelevant or aimless rambling.

Tip 5:  Build a community around your podcast

Interact with your audience, by encouraging feedback and responding to comments. Your listeners are valuable assets. Actively seek their feedback, engage with them and respond to their comments promptly.  This will enable you to create a community around your podcast and develop a loyal following.

Tip 6: Use social media to connect with your audience

Social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are powerful tools for promoting your podcast and engaging with your listeners. Take advantage of these platforms by sharing your content establishing connections with your audience and keeping the conversation going.

Tip 7: Consider inviting guests for perspectives.

Adding variety and fresh perspectives can be achieved by inviting guests onto your show. Embrace the opportunity to have voices on board who can bring insights into the topics you discuss.

By inviting guests to appear on your podcast you can bring in a range of perspectives making your content more interesting and captivating. Moreover collaborating with guests allows you to expand the reach of your podcast as they promote it to their followers.

Tip 8: Improving your podcast

Continually assess and enhance the quality of your podcast by listening to feedback and experimenting with formats or topics. Always strive for improvement and pay attention to feedback from your audience to ensure that you consistently deliver engaging content.
